IMC recently completed a survey of CMCs to determine whether the CMC is recognized as an authoritative brand and is effective in business development. Almost all (97%) respondents saw the CMC designation as valuable to their business and actively use it to differentiate themselves from their non-CMC competitors. Three task groups (survey team, CMC resources team, and internal branding team) provided support for this effort and produced a report of how to use build recognition, how to leverage the CMC in business development, and how to sustain the "point of differentiation" value of the CMC.

Consultants should take a strong cue from the life and contributions of Tim Russert, who passed away in June. Tim was known to many as a journalist who exhibited characteristics to which a consultant to management should aspire. These include a full commitment to preparation, fairness in his work and dealing with those he interviewed, a diligent search for the truth on the surface and beneath, and a respect from even those he made squirm in their seats. We learn well from descriptive examples and this piece by Bette Price is an excellent and evocative tribute to Tim and, by reference, to the kind of professional to which we should all aspire.

On Monday, June 25, 2007, IMC Radio begins broadcasting live at ConsultingWorld from the Disney Contemporary Resort in Florida. IMC Radio is our new way to bring you insights from our conference speakers and our Certified Management Consultants (CMCs). Shows will be archived and a new CMC will share his or her experience, research or case studies each month.

Starting with the April 2007 issue, IMC USA once again provides a connection to its members and the profession of management consulting. The IMC USA Connector will contain news about the Institute, its chapters and members, and about events and trends in the consulting profession. Issues are emailed to all IMC USA members and are available online.

IMC USA is highlighted in the October 16, 2006 issue of Business Week. An article about consulting as an alternative to retirement features Mike Grimshaw and Tom Northup, both CMCs, discussing how they made the transition from corporate life to a successful consulting career. This issue also includes a letter to the editor by Mark Haas, IMC USA Board Chair, commenting on the value of certification. The letter, "Is Your Management Consultant Certified?" is a response to Jack Welch's column that implied that competent consultants were difficult to find and manage. |
